Question:
has anyone every done an herbal cleansing/detoxification program? i've just
started one for the new year.
it's supposed to detoxify the liver, kidneys, and digestive tract. some
people believe that detoxing the digestive tract and liver can help treat
FMS, MCS, CFS, IBD, autoimmune disorders, and a whole pack of other things.
i'm skeptical, but i figured if nothing else, it will help with the
irritable bowel stuff, and it seems like a good way to start the new year.
Answer:
I think it's a great idea.
I occasionally do a small scale cleansing by drinking herbal teas with the
dandelion, milkweed, thistle, and the others thought to cleanse the liver
and promote GI health. I prolly got them mixed up there, sorry.
I also thought about doing a complete colonic purge every six months to a
year with phospo-soda, which I used in prep for my colon surgery in 2002,
but my doctor told me it's prolly not as good an idea as it sounds... I
think she was concerned with the resulting nutritional deficit, but it seems
that could be rather easily fixed subsequent to the purge. Right?
I have heard and known others to use enemas regularly, but I find them
unpleasant and ineffective so far as really cleaning things out completely.
I think cleansing/purging the GI tract, as well as the liver and kidneys
should be done regularly to get rid of the toxins that build up, but for
whatever reason, it isn't part of traditional western medicine the way it is
in many traditional eastern cultures.
I think it has to be good for our overall health too, not just for those of
us with FMS etc. specifically, considering the quality of what most of us
eat and drink.
The meds we take can also take their toll on our livers in particular,
another reason for doing the detox regularly, and prolly with stronger
strengths than my teas provide (but they're a safe start).
Let us know how it goes for you?
ive done different fastings and herbal protocols... Milk thistle is one of
my favs for detoxing the liver... i also use apple cider vinegar/honey, it
aids in digestion and helps with cleansing.
i wouldn't reccomend any total fasts, us FMers need our daily fuel. but
doing a week of veggies and fruits and nuts and some real-meat/bone broth
sounds pretty good after all my nholiday stuffings or maybe a couple of
days of fruits, jello and broths.... what ever approah you take in giving
your gut a rest, try to get only good nutrients into you and make it easily
digested items...oh and don't foget the water
