Question:
Anyone have any opinion/experience with "The Raw Food Detox Diet" by
Natalia Rose? I just got the book as a present and some of it makes
sense but I'm not sure I could continue with such a diet.
She puts down cow's milk AND soy milk and recommends nut milk.
Answer:
As with any lifestyle food cult, one should first examine the science said
to support its truth claims. If they can not be sustained then any other
discussion thereafter is meaningless.
The reply is exactly correct. What is the science? Even more basic,
define "detox" in a meaningful way. I'll bet the author never does
this. Here is my opinion on "detox:" if you start to get the heavy
metals out of places in your body where they are safely stored (old
people have lipofuscin - age spots, for example, where iron is stored),
and then they react with ongoing lipid peroxidation reactions, you will
do yourself massive damage. All you need to do is to drink coffee
(lighly roasted varietes) once in a while, along with eating berries
and dark chocolate, and drinking white tea (if you don't like coffee),
but stay away from oxidized cholesterol and and any major source of
unsaturated fatty acids. Then you will not have to worry about "detox"
one way or the other - your body will be able to do what is in its best
interests.
