Question:
I'm planning to have a 14-day liquid diet that promises to lose up to 14kg
in 2 weeks time. It's like I'll only have a fruit juice at the fixed time of
the day, and consume some herbel products at fixed time. It promises to
'detox' and 'purify' your body system, that is when you will lose weight coz
it cleanse your body, allowing the waste out of your body .
I wonder this diet suits me. Will I always go hungry? Can I go jogging
during this period? I've never tried this kind of diet before that is why im
quite worried. I still believe a good diet and exercise is
important..however, I am uncontrollable of my eating diet and I am getting
so lazy to exercise.
It's like, the more I eat, the more depressed I got. And the more depressed
I got, the more I eat. The circle never ends...I was hoping to do
something...hopefully start of by controlling the diet..then when i lose
weight, I can have the confidence to go out and exercise....Does anyone care
to share views?
Answer:
Do you drive? Do you run your car with an empty tank? Your body needs
fiber. An occasional one or two day fast is acceptable but there is no
reason to be on a liquid diet for two weeks unless ordered to do so by a
doctor. This is a sad case of what extremities people will go to for a
quick weight loss usually followed by gaining. Sorry I can't be
approving or supportive of your effort.
You'll be very, very hungry and probably temporarily lose a lot of water
from the laxatives and diuretics in the herbal products, which will go
right back on afterward. You may lose a few pounds from eating almost
nothing, but that will go right back on when you start eating like a
maniac after starving yourself for 2 weeks.
Your body already lets waste out. If it did not, your problems would be a
lot more serious than some extra weight. Any weight you lose by emptying
your digestive tract with a juice fast will come right back when you
fill it with solid food again. Fat is not held in your body by "toxins."
14 kg or 14 lb? Either way it sounds dangerous... If it is
actually 14 kg in 2 weeks I personally think it would either
be impossible or really harm you, especially if you run.
Even 14 lb, 7 lb per week for two weeks, is pushing it,
especially if all you're getting is a bit of juice and herbal
supplements. You say "it promises to..." - is this a program
you've signed up for? Please rethink this carefully and think
about how your body works. Don't want you running a 5K
after not having eaten in days! Let us know what you
decide, if you like.
