Question:
I` m very thin , currently finishing a diet to get even thinner.Been on
several diets thru the decades..all successful. Not "high" metabolism, (
I was fat a chid, got thin in y late teens) just focusand knowledge.
Forget any "fad" or "plan" diet. Keep in mind these precepts : dump the
scale, it will give inaccurate readings due to water
retention/elimanation. The heavier you are the faster you will lose, but
as you get lighter the losses will take longer. Become familar with the
caloric value of the foods you eat and how many calories your body will
burn at various weights at "normal" activity. Forget exercise , most
likely it will just make you hungry. Best long term plan : ( although
even a candy bar diet works,,,the bars weigh little ) two meals a day ,
one at about ten/eleven AM , the other at about five/six PM. Total of
about 1,100 calories/day. VERY IMPORTANT : never let yourself get too
hungry, this is the number one reason diets fail, when you REALLY are
too hungry, drink a can of real soda , or eat an apple, then resume the
standard diet. A heavy ( 250 lbs.) person will lose about a pound a day
this way . Failue to maintain this routine and reach goal weight will be
boredom, lack of real incentive , or lack of patience. Once goal weight
has been accomplished a knowlede of calories will allow the individual
to make various daily trade-offs to keep within the allowed number of
calories/day. You can eat anything you want, when you want ( tho not as
much as you want) in this way. The mirror will be your judge and jury.
Forget ANY excuse you`ve heard or manufactured to excuse your certain
diet failue.
Answer:
I am a Health and Fitness College Lecturer in the UK and all the
reliable science, good practice and common sense says that to eat such
a low calorie diet and eat as you advise is not only not the best way
to loose weight but it is not very healthy either. As for the
maintaining 180lb weight I have been this weight for the past 25 years
give or take a few pounds when I decide to add some muscle or up my
activity levels. It seems to me you are trying to get too thin. Look
at all the fit and attractive people and tell me they do not exercise.
Yes there may be the odd exception but any sane person knows that
exercise is essential for good health. As for the so called detox
systems unless you go for the really drastic approach the real
evidence is that there are very little positive results, certainly not
enough to justify the misery of going on a detox diet. You appear to
have read quite a lot on the subject but you have not read the science
on how the body works and adapts to change. Yes everyone will loose
weight on a calorie deficit, that's the equation of life, but
eventually you have to give your body what it needs to stay healthy
and your low cal diet and lack of exercise routine is just not the
way.
You have an interesting system which works well for you I assume...Why you
suggest dropping exercise is beyond me...Well I guess I understand but find
it to be very important in your overall health and ability to lose and still
not starve...2 meals a day...Again I guess it works for you but everyone is
different and often more small meals makes better sense...Why would you
recommend a sugared soda...Just for the extra calories?...Apple sure...In
addition 2 meals a day will tend to leave most people hungry and 1100
calories a day for a 250 lb person is low...Sure you will lose but will you
remain on it?...I'm a ex 350 lb guy who is now at 188...I eat 3 meals a day
and plan on snacks in the evening...I exercise daily and think I may have
finally beat this addiction...Anyway I just felt I had to put in my 2
cents...Good luck on your journey..
