Question:
can anyone give me some helpful info or encouraging thoughts on detoxing
of methadone cold turkey. i was only at 20mg, and due to my unfortunate
situation of being in drug court, i was supposed to begin a 5 day detox
yesterday, followed by a month of residential treatment. however, i was
put in jail over the weekend (due to low creatine levels in a urine
sample- trying to cover up from using). so i haven't dosed since
thursday, and the detox place wouldn't take me, since i had already gone
3 days without. now i'm on the 5th day without meth, i haven't slep a
wink and the pain is getting worse. i can't take time off from my drug
classes, (every day from 9-4) for adoctor appointment, otherwise they'll
send me to jail again. and i'm going to the residential place this
thursday, and it's not a medical facility. so how do i deal with this,
because i know it only gets worse from here. i know 20mg isn't much, but
i was at70mg for almost 2 years before i got to 20mg, and i've only been
on 20 for a month or so. someone please help!!

By the way, I have been lurking for a long time, and I just started posting.
I love this ng. Hi, my name is Cricket.
Anyway, do I feel so bad for you. Anything you can get pills, valiums,
codeine. The codeine helped me the most, but that's me. I had 10 valium
and it was enough to take the edge off. I didn't sleep for awhile, but
eventually it came back.
I went through the same thing two years ago. I was on 85 ml. of methadone
and took myself down too fast. Plus I had an operation coming up, and if my
surgeon found out, I would have lost him. Too bad that's how the world is
today. No one wants to help people who really need it. They just want to
run around in their helicopters and play like they are (cops, DEA) doing
good. It's ridiculous.
I don't know where you live, but it can be very expensive to get the kind of
treatment you need. You say you are going to a residential treatment
program? But they don't have any medicine to give you? That sucks, you
know? Because you probably need it (I know you need it). Other things I
did was exercising to make me tired. or dance to a cd. I know you don't
feel like it but it's better than lying down and trying to sleep. This is a
hard detox, but not impossible. You're at one of the hump places. It seems
like it's getting worse, but the drug is kicking you back. If you can ride
out the rough part, it gets easier. If takes a couple of weeks at least to
even feel a little bit better.
Make sure you have your heart checked somewhere, because kicking is hard on
your heart. Anyway, the most important thing is to get yourself through
this. If I can anyone can, believe me. Fortunately, I was able to get a
codeine script because I had pain in my leg and I had surgery coming up. If
you had a doctor you trusted at all, you could tell him you're addicted to
prescription pain pills, and you are trying to get off on your own. And
very important --tell him your heart hurts-- and you can't sleep, and you
are very shaky. You have very little time to do this though, so it's just a
thought.
I work for a counselor and I would be willing to look for a better place for
you. But I am not promising anything because it's so hard to get decent
treatment now. (It was much better when the county ran the methadone
program.) I am in California, by the way.
When I couldn't get pills, I used Tylenol pms and a tea called sleepytime
with warm milk. I know it sounds stupid but it works. I think there are
better teas out there now. But drinking doesn't help and will probably make
you sicker. If you use Tylenol pms, try not to use too many, because it
makes you think you're not loaded but you are. And don't drink with them.
I did that and almost fell into some glass.
